PRE & POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

BEFORE YOUR FILLER TREATMENT

2 WEEKS BEFORE

Avoid aspirin or products containing acetylsalicylic acid, vitamin E, St. John’s Wort and supplements that may increase bruising, including ginkgo, evening primrose oil, garlic, feverfew and ginseng, unless these have been prescribed or recommended by your healthcare provider.

Avoid vaccinations or flu shots for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after filler treatment, unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider.

48 HOURS BEFORE

Avoid ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), Aleve (naproxen) and alcohol, unless these medications have been prescribed or your healthcare provider has instructed you to continue them.

If possible, arrive for your appointment with a clean, makeup-free face.

AFTER YOUR FILLER TREATMENT

Mild redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness and/or itching are common following dermal filler treatment.

Do not massage or manipulate treated areas unless specifically instructed by your provider.

Avoid heat until any bruising or swelling has resolved. On the day of treatment, avoid activities that cause significant facial flushing, including alcohol, hot tubs, saunas, strenuous exercise, hot waxing and tanning.

Avoid extreme cold exposure, including prolonged outdoor exposure in very cold conditions.

Apply a cool compress or wrapped ice pack to treated areas for approximately 15 minutes at a time, every few hours as needed, to help reduce discomfort, swelling or bruising.

Bruising typically resolves within 7–10 days, although this can vary.

Arnica may help reduce bruising and swelling for some patients. Ask your provider if this is appropriate for you.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) may be used for mild discomfort if appropriate for you. Avoid alcohol and medications that may increase bruising unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider.

Gentle cleansing, showering and moisturizing are fine after treatment. Sunscreen and makeup may be applied gently.
